| | | Great tit help Hello.
Okay I just went round to my kitchen to view my feeding station and I noticed about 7 Great tits feeding. However there was a young one on the ground who couldn't seem to get a few inches of the ground. I watched him for ten minutes until I decided to intervene. As I approched he couldn't or wouldn't fly away so I caught him and brought him inside. I placed him in an open fronted nest box I had recently bought but not got a chance to put up yet and gave him some seed which he is eating right now.
It had only stopped raining and beleive me it was heavy so he's soaked, perhaps why he wasn't able to get up? He didn't struggle in my hands though and his wings seem alright \(though I'm no vet) so I don't think he is hurt.
Any ideas on what I should so? |

| | | Re: Great tit help Afternoon TD,
He may have been feeding with the adults - his parents may have been one of the seven. Return him as soon as you can, in an open space so his parents will see him, in a position out of the range of cats but not high enough that he may get injured in falling ( in case he has a broken wing).
Keep an eye on him, and let us know how he gets on. What are his feathers like - any chance of a photo?
I wonder if this thread may help: If you find a BABY BIRD
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Great tit help Okay thanks did that and he's away now. I pointed him off back towards the feeder but he flew off past it towards garden and stopped. I went out a few minutes later to see if he was still there. Which he was. But once he saw me he got to the treeline and started climbing and hopping his way up.
I do have some pictures. His feathers did seem quite developed.
I'll try and post some |

| | | Re: Great tit help Thanks, I remember doing this with a Robin once about maybe 5 years ago. It had something black and sticky on it's wing and couldn't fly properly. But I released it back into the wild. Not sure what happened to it because I didn't honestly hang around to watch it go.
Heres two pictures.....I took about 11 and these are the best too, sometimes I'm just not a good photographer :P....sometimes
I put the first picture in the unidentified catagory BTW...sorry |
