| | | The best and cheapest seed?? Any reccomendations? Cause the birds around my way are depending on my dwindling supply of cash for seed so.....
I have to by the seed myself with only some "loans" from parents.
Right now I only have about half a dozen suet balls, half a kg of ground seed and a full kg bag of Niger seed (don't have a niger seed feeder though *facepalm*) left and I only bought the stuff 2 days ago.
Not complaining about the birds. It's not their fault obviously but it's hard keeping up though. |

Try Poundland as they usually have fairly ok stuff in my neck of the woods. Also Wilkinsons have a good variety and on Merseyside we have Poundstretcher (not sure if it's a national chain).
I know what you mean regarding "keeping up!" The birds in my garden don't half eat!

| | | Re: The best and cheapest seed?? ..Hi Doc, I found out that in this area, buying a 25 kilo sack of seed worked out soooo much cheaper per kilo... of course you have to find the money to start with, but it works out cheep cheep. ..I will find out the price for you later today....you have to be careful where you keep it 'cos it will attract other little munchers, I know you wouldn't mind that, but the senior members of your household might. ..Also somebody I know funds birdfood by selling items on Ebay..he started off selling his own 'outgrown' items, and now lots of items are given to him to sell.,,will report back later with prices of large and small amounts for comparison....Posie. |

..Right Doc, Here are the local prices for comparison of large or small amounts...
1 kilo is £1.95...Which works out at £39 for 20 kilos.(I know it can be bought cheaper than this for 1 kilo, less than £1 in places)..but...
20 kilo sack is £8.75....which is under 44p. per kilo..The one I'm quoting is called 'Falcon', I use it and find it OK., but there are other makes. I get mine from a nurseries that also does animal supplies..Hope this helps....Posie..
p.s. their fatballs are 99p each for large,... and £1..35 for pack of 6 small...I know they can be bought cheaper than this....Posie.. |

| | | Re: The best and cheapest seed?? Hia Everyone,
Im new to this website & so glad i found this. Its fantastic and very helpful.
Yeah I would say BMS or if you have a home bargains that is cheap and has quite a good amount of new stock being added to in the bird section.
My last shop for bird food was also ASDA they had a huge sack of mixed seed which has lasted me ages but that could be because there doesnt seem to be much exciting seeds in there and all the trees are full of berries for them this time of year so not many visiting me right now.
I took it personal at first and got a little worried it could be cats scaring them off until I saw how much the trees were feeding them. |

| | | Re: The best and cheapest seed?? Thanks guys
Got 3 bags of mixed seed bags of Bill Oddies brand and another pack of fatballs in poundland which seemed pretty good, hoping to find some black sunflower seeds and sunflower hearts because those are the much needed ones.
Also yesterday went to B&Ms and got 3 bags of Mealworms for 1:99 each, 2 bags of peanuts for about 79P, a fat block with mealworms for 89P and then...something else for a good price, so thnaks for the tips! |
