| | | Re: new member Welcome to WAB Lanie1. Great to see another new enthusiast to birdwatching! Be careful, the bug bites deep, so does the pocket when you start getting frustrated with your optics and I'm afraid that frustration will never leave you completely - you will always have a yen for better binos, better scopes and better cameras even when you start upgrading!
It's worth checking out your local RSPB group for guided walks or your local Ornithological Society for group walks. Going out with more experienced birders is a great way to learn more about bird identification (and equipment!) and get more involved in conservation issues about your local fauna and flora. |

| | | Re: new member I feel exactly the same. I am sure I bore the pants off my boyfriend, I see his head nod as I talk about all the different birds I saw that day etc, then when I put as much bird food in the trolley as our weekly shop his jaw drops and I say" well some one has to feed them
I love it, I am basing my new move on wildlife and birds and am leaving my built up flat for semi rural near river. Cant wait to see what comes to my new garden and to hopefully share it all on here. |

| | Re: new member welcome to wab lanie1, when you become a birder you see birds all the time without even trying, its as if you become tuned in to nature and you will find it very rewarding.
P.s A little tip, always take a pencil and note book out with you to write or scetch dicription of bird you are unsure about,
All the best

| | | Re: new member Great to see new people coming to birding. Welcome. Only started serioulsy myself 3 years ago. Be warned. It's very addictive.
When you find yourself planning business trips, holidays and yes, even house moves all around your bird watching you soon wonder if you've lost leave of your senses.
I'm afraid we all have to get used to the blank expressions that non-birders give you when you're telling them your latest sightings.
Nothing can get across your excitement the first time you see a peregrine diving into a swirling mass of waders. Or the sight of 100's of whooper swans flying into land first thing in the morning.
It can be frustrating at times, but so rewarding at others. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
