| | | great day Had to share this!
Made a visit to the developing Langford lowfields RSPB reserve near newark for a guided Marsh Harrier walk. Its a great site which is still being used by Tarmac for gravel and sand extraction but in 7 years will be under full control of the RSPB and it'll be incredible in 20 years time! Its quite interesting to see the succession of the work that they're doing there, and the first area of reedbeds is well matured now, and is home to the first breeding pair of Marsh Harriers in Nottinghamshire.
Saw lots of birdlife, the highlights being
Marsh Harriers
3 Hobby
Buzzard
Turtle dove
Little egret
3 Oystercatcher
a flock of around 75 lapwing
around 5 juvenile yellow wagtail
the bikeride down there was great too, lovely farmland which was literally rammed out with skylarks and yellowhammers.
Very tired now after 20 miles on the bike and a long sunny windy walk around the reserve, but what a day!!!

| | | Re: great day Sounds like you had a fantastic day out .
I had my first ever visit to an RSPB reserve (Vane Farm) last weekend and the day just wasn't long enough ! I have a week off work in August and plan to spend the entire week JUST bird watching . | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
