| | | collared dove Hi I have a collared dove nesting in our tree. The tree is a flowering cherry tree and it isnt very dense. The poor bird is getting soaked when it rains. Iam worried about her. I haven't seen her leave the nest yet and she has been there for about three weeks to my knowledge. Is there anything I can do? we put seed and grain out every day in the back garden but she is in the front. we dont put seed in the front in case it attracts ither birds and endangers the dove |

| | | Re: collared dove Hi and welcome to WAB,
Nothing you can do...the bird will learn where is a good nesting site trough experience.
Nature is cruel sometimes and these birds can nest all year so I wouldn't worry about it. |

| | | Re: collared dove The bird will be fine, they often nest in exposed areas. This species can nest all year round so when its pouring down and the temperatures are low it still manages. The doves will be keeping the eggs dry and warm a little rain wont hurt it, also the pair take it in turns to incubate so it will be getting plenty of shelter when not on eggs. I would avoid putting seed down and attracting other birds as this may also attract predators. |

| | | Re: collared dove When you see how numerous they are now it's incredible to think that in the 1950s twitchers were getting all excited when the first pair bred in this country for the first time. One amazing success story. Just this afternoon I had ten in my back garden eating me out of house and home. |

| | | Re: collared dove Hi again, our collared doves had a baby and it grew so quickly.
Mum and Dad are back in the nest again cooing and stuff so looks like they liked their cherry blossom tree even though the rain poured all over them.
