| | | Re: british bird sounds cd I have mp3 versions of British bird song CD Vol 1+2 which came free with the Sunday Telegraph about a year or so ago. There are 100 different bird songs.
I can upload somewhere for you. It comes with scanned colour images of the included ID Guides. Please let me know if interested.

You'll find the website Xeno-Canto is far more comprehensive than most birdsong CD's. The problem with many CD's is that they only contain the song of the bird (if it has one) when, very often, what you want to hear is a contact or flight call. Here's a sample page of chaffinch songs and calls (there are three pages!): xeno-canto/Europe :: bird sounds from Europe :: Fringilla coelebs
Here's a sample page for the same species from another good site, Tarsiger.com: Tarsiger.com
You can download all these as mp3's from both sites and make up your own collection if you so choose.
It may sound obvious but the best way to learn bird songs and calls IMO is to try and find the bird that's making the sound you can't identify. Once you can identify it by sight the call/song seems to stick in the mind much more than simply listening to a CD. It works for me anyway!
I believe the four CD set 'Bird Songs and Calls of Britain and Europe' by Jean-Claude Roche is excellent if you'd rather use CDs.
Cheers
Jonathan |

Agree its best done in the field, but they just don't stick in my non-musical brain. |
