| | | Bird ID HelP Please. I know what I think these are, but I'd like other opinions please. The pictures were taken this afternoon near Carrbridge.

I agree they look like fieldfares but wondered what they were doing there.
I then realised that you said you'd seen them at Carrbridge and i'd read it as Cambridge.
The trouble is I already go to specsavers so where do I go now!

| | | Re: Bird ID HelP Please. In my opening post I forgot to say that there was a flock of 30+, personally I'm sure they are Fieldfares, that was my initial impression driving past the field they were in. I just really wanted confirmation and other opinions because of the time of year.
I've never seen Mistle Thrush in a group of more than about half a dozen, and that's really the only thing I can think of that look similar. I know that some Fieldfares do stay in Scotland to breed, but no more than 5 pairs in the last few years.

| | | Re: Bird ID HelP Please. Could be Fieldfare, but they are a very rare breeding bird in the UK, even in Scotland! Possibility they could be early migrant juveniles.
I honestly can't rule out Mistle Thrush on these photos - can't see any hint of rufus/orange markings on upper breast or flanks and there is no clear image of the rumps.
I'd get back to the site and get a better photo - if you are certain they are Fieldfare, you will need to provide a proper description/fieldnote, photos etc and then email everything to the Invernesshire County Recorder - they will want them in the County Rare Breeding Birds records.
EDIT Given your last post, I'd say they were definately Mistle Thrush in that number! |

Cheers David | You and me both. I also read it as Cambridge and thought earthdragon was a long way from home.
I will also go for fieldfare. |

Mistle Thrush can gather in largish post breeding feeding flocks. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
