| | | Seagull in my garden pond Nipped out to the shed for something earlier, and heard a splashing noise. Thought at first our pigeons were having a bath in their tub in the garden, then discovered a seagull in our garden pond - as we are 15 miles from the sea, not something you expect to see every day. Poor thing was struggling to get out, so I went over to help, then noticed a badly mangled wing. I rushed to get some gloves, but by the time I got back to him, he'd struggled out onto the grass and was starting to run around. He could still move at quite a pace and it took me a while to corner him, in some long grass where he couldn't move so well.
Managed to get him in a cat carry box, rang the local RSPCA centre who are about 5 miles away. I delivered him there on the school run. Doesn't look good - wing very badly damaged so probably a PTS job, but atleast he's not wandering around being terrorised by the local cats or suffering a long painful death.
Local farmers have been cutting hay and silage all around us, which usually attracts a lot of gulls, and we have pylons running in the field behind, so my guess is he hit the cables, and has been wandering on foot until he fell in our pond. Poor thing! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
