Is this a Fieldfare?

Took this "up and under" pic of a bird in the top of a tree this afternoon, probably a Fieldfare but I am not sure... is it?

Looks like one to me with the grey patches at the side of the head, but I could be mistaken.

Re: Is this a Fieldfare?

Thanks, just that it was all on its own in the top of a tree, always seen them in groups before.

Yes that is a bit strange because by now I would have expected to see many of both species, but to date I have seen one redwing only, Jon

Re: Is this a Fieldfare?

No birds around here (Leicestershire)
This is almost certainly due to the warm weather.
Wait until we get a series of cold days (winds from the North) I think we will all see a difference then.

Yep, we need a few days of hard frosty weather, I've seen nothing apart from the usual resident birds, and even they're not coming into Gardens in any numbers yet.

Re: Is this a Fieldfare?

I have seen a single redwing and a good flock of fieldfares on a few occasions. I usually get a number of fieldfares in my garden during the winter. None so far.

I have tree that still has apples on, not sure what type of apple they are. Plus a couple of different tree/bushes that possess berries.

Usually get the fieldfares in when the weather is very cold, frosty, and been snowing. Had 7 last year that stayed constantly in my garden for 3 weeks. Waiting for weather to take a turn for worst for them to show up.
