The lazy way of getting bird shots.

I wasn't feeling too hot today but didn't want to miss the surprising sunshine, (weather forecasters wrong yet again!) So we went back to Sherwood Forest armed with a bag of bird food and I simply sat in the car with the window down and managed to get these plus many other shots:

Not too bad a day! Some times it pays to let the birds come to you!

Re: The lazy way of getting bird shots.

Looks like a good idea to get out Graham. I have spent all day indoors, getting through my expenses - a job I hate at the best of times, but I had 2 months to get through today. Wish I had popped out now. Theres always the week ahead

You have my sympathy Andrew. I well remember when I had to do my accounts, it would take me days and I hated every second of it..and Bank reconciliations, well, they nearly drove me mad!! (Some say they actually DID send me mad!!)

The Willow Tit was a surprise there, just one lone bird. I've not seen them at that site before so it was very welcome. The Nuthatch is more evident than sparrows there!

Re: The lazy way of getting bird shots.

They have just decided that we have to start working out the VAT, but only on receipts with VAT. I did this last time and then was told there is no VAT on postage? Now I just use car parks with VAT breakdown on the receipt and I wont use supermarkets that dont break it down either

I'd like to think that was it! They are very used to us humans there. When I went to refill one of the feeders, I got within four foot of some birds before they flew away. With a bit of effort I could get them feeding from the hand I reckon.

Yep, VAT was another of my hates! I used to run a sales business with mixed VAT rates, it was a nightmare getting it right. 0% on some items, a lower rate on others, all on the same invoice. That's fine when you've got good salesmen, but one guy I had working for me never got it right..and guess who had to stand the losses? not the VAT man anyway!

Re: The lazy way of getting bird shots.

I swear they do it just to stop us spending so much. My laptop broke so I let them grow unfortunately. I will have to be more disciplined and do them nightly. Yeah right

No, I simply rested the camera on the window glass, moving it up and down as needed. Not very professional, but it worked, although I got about 20% of spoilt shots due to camera movement. 20% is low for me!

Nice shots Graham, I have done this in the past myself although I did use a car window clamp.

If I'm going to do this more often, I'll have to look into some better support. Andrew's sounds interesting. What type was yours?

Well, if you ever fancy getting some Matt, I've never failed to see them there. Treecreepers as well, although they're much harder to get as they don't visit the feeders.

I see it's also good as a macro stand for non moving subjects..I'm really interested now as I've been looking for something to help with this type of shot.
I'll have a look at 7 day shop and see if santa can stretch to one!
