| | | dovestones. had a stroll round dovestones today, and saw these birds, peregrine family putting on an ariel display , swallows, house martins, swifts, meadow pipits,grey wagtails, pied wagtails, jackdaws,crows,magpies,wood pigeons,canadian geese, mallards,blackbirds,chaffinch,great tits, blue tits, but i have got to say a couple of curlews on the wing and treating me to there unmistakeable call, wonderful to listen to, and a pleasure to watch. rossy.    well worth a visit if you get a chance. |

| | | Re: dovestones. Yes its a lovely place, needs to be explored if you can visit, RSPB working hard to improve it all, but an absolutely stunning location no matter what.
Pair of Cuckoos there last week, successful breeding common sandpipers too, plus see the RSPB blog on it for more interesting bird info.
Heaving with Orchids at the moment, common spotted and southern marsh.

Ken | I was really chuffed to hear about the cuckoos as it's been a few years since I last heard one there. I've heard more than normal in Calderdale this spring too. Another influx of crossbills would be nice now.
