| | | Amazing sight for a soon to be apprentice Falconer I was talking to my mum earlier in the dining room then all of a sudden came the shouts from the kitchen of "SON, SON WHATS THAT!?" these were coming from my dad, who was stood at the sink looking into the garden (he doesn't have the best wildlife knowledge, bless him). I ran over to see and there was a beautiful juvenile (I beleive) sparrowhawk sat with its fresh catch in my garden, so I ran to grab my camara and got a few shots. It was amazing to see such a amazing bird making its living in the garden and I so hope it will return a few more times.
I hope we can celebrate these birds as the magnificent birds they are and not (like some national rags) label them as cold blooded killers because they are just making a living all animals have to eat after all and these do it in a spectacular way.

Beautiful birds and doing nothing more than making their living as you so rightly pointed out.
Again forgetting my manners, welcome to the wonderful world of WAB

| | | Re: Amazing sight for a soon to be apprentice Falconer That's a nice shot Ross - well caught
I don't know if you've noticed but the bird seems to have a ring on its right leg - probably been ringed by the long-standing ringing group out on the Fen - a place I know very well, visit regularly and have been visiting for more than 30 years.
I'm also pleased to say they sell my photos in the Visitor Centre

Hope you enjoy falconry | Sorry to quibble, faz, but it looks like an immature male (second calendar year). Cheeks and banding are still mostly dark, and you can see the orange of an adult just starting to moult through.
