| | | DEAD Bird ID. Hi all,
I took this poor little chap away from a cat but it was too late. I'm struggling to identify him, my best guess is juvenile bullfinch but as I've never seen one before to my knowledge, I'm not at all certain.
regards

| | | Re: DEAD Bird ID. My first thought was chaffinch, but I reckon that the beak is too short and deep, there's not enough white on the wingbars and too much black on the primaries.
Compare with these from the Gallery, particularly the beak shape.
Then compare to this shot of a juv bullfinch.

Hi Jason
Posts crossed while I was looking at pics.
The tail/rump area was too badly damaged to get a clear idea of what the plumage there had been like.

| | | Re: DEAD Bird ID. Clear juv Bullfinch. Whatever you can see of the rump, it's white and not green. Chaffinches also have white outer tail feathers.
And then there's that bill |

| | | Re: DEAD Bird ID. I would say juv Bullfinch too, simply on breast colour.
Sat nursing one back to health for an hour last night after it flew into a window and knocked itself out.Was worried the local cats would get it but it eventually flew off into the bushes and then off.Seen it since so alls well |
