| | | Best place to see birds of prey in London? Hello,
I've been wondering, what is the best place in London to see birds of prey? I have recently gained a lot of interest in them and want to get a closer look!
Thanks, HanD. |

For Sprawks and Kestrels, try Regents Park. We saw both at the WAB meet.
Head west for Red Kites - Chilterns if you can get there. If you drive, I can be more specific.
Buzzards are at Stanmore now, I hear, but I've not seen any. I know of other places, but they are further out of the capital.

I have been treated to close views of Kestrels and Sparrowhawks, they also have reported sightings of a Hobby and Peregrine. Wildlife sightings - Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT)

It will be relatively quiet at the moment (just Kestrels, Sparrowhawks & a few Hobbys), but during August and September there are regularly Marsh Harriers & Buzzards passing over the reserve, larger numbers of Hobbys, regular Peregrines + occasional other species like Ospreys. Other species can be seen during the winter months. Join one of the reserves regular walks to take advantage of the sharp eyes of the staff and volunteers!
Buzzards are now regular in many of the Essex woodlands just outside London, with plenty of Sparrowhawks also present + Kestrels in more open areas.
Most parkland areas, especially those with ponds & dragonflies, will attract passing Hobbys during the autumn - the Lee Valley can be especialy good for these (+ Buzzards & occasional Ospreys + Marsh Harrier).
For Peregrines try the RSPB Peregrine watch at the Tate Modern, when RSPB staff will be on hand with telescopes; The RSPB: London peregrines at the Tate |
