male of female blackbird fledgling

is there any way to tell if a blackbird fledgling is male or female???

i read the males are the vocal ones, females pretty quiet, just wondering if i'm wasting my time trying to teach it to sing, by playing blackbird songs off the net, and whisteling, it will reply to a whistle when it's hungry, but that's it,

even whilst being fed it dosent chirp much like others i see on youtube do,

still not sure of it's age either, it still has a bald tummy and bum, but tail feathers about an inch long now, took 3 days to do that,

it's got a nicely mottled chest, but it's flight feathers are black,
