Following on from my blackbird story - here's the robin one!
Every day my blackbird and two robins fly down while I'm putting out food on my garden table.
Last week one of the robins looked different - its beak was stuck open and I could see something black in its mouth.
I waited for a while and went out again and pretended to go through the feeding routine and it flew down and tried to feed but couldn't due to the black object. I realised something was stuck in its beak.
I told my husband (he's as daft as me!) and he went for his big fish net.
I pretended I was doing the feeding again, the robin came down and so did the net.
I managed to hold the bird upside down in the net, my husband got some tweezers and he extracted a large beetle from the bird's throat where it had been wedged. I let the robin go and it flew off.
I was worried that it might die from shock so I watched but saw it go to the pond for water and then to the feeder.
The next day I worried it may not return, either because it had died from its experiences or maybe it thought that free food wasn't worth being splatted.
But it did turn up and we were thrilled as we were sure it would have died pretty soon as it couldn't drink or eat.
Great!!!
