| | | Dawn Chorus Thought this was interesting: Dawn Chorus - Boing Boing To create the videos for the project, Coates took slowed-down birdcalls and taught various people to sing them in their slowed-down state. He then filmed them singing the songs in ordinary situations or 'habitats' and sped up the footage again so the birdcalls are at normal speed again. The result is remarkably similar to the original.
Coates' collaborator on the project is wildlife sound recordist Geoff Sample, who's books on birdsong many will be familiar with.
These are my guesses for the birds. Anyone think they're wrong or can fill in the ones I'm not sure of? The ones I don't know all sound like robins to be honest!
1. Wren
2. Robin
3. Chaffinch
4. Wren again
5. Not sure - robin again maybe?
6. Blackbird
7. Robin?
8. Wren
9. Chiffchaff
10. Bluetit
11. ??
12. Swallow
13. Yellowhammer
14. ??
15. ??
16. A superb linnet!
17. Bluetit
18. Yellowhammer
19. Song thrush
20. Cock pheasant
Cheers

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus Fantastic, Jonathan, and an amazing accomplishment. The sounds are indeed remarkably similar to the birds' songs. I would agree with nearly all your identifications apart from -
5. don't know
14. Dunnock
15. Blackcap?
and I didn't spot 19.
But that really is a remarkable video. Well found, and thanks for sharing it |

| | | Re: Dawn Chorus The pheasant is truly amazing. I wouldn't even have thought that it was possible to slow that down into learnable and repeatable notes, yet the result is spot on. Loved it, and so did my three boys | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
