| | | Re: Help ! Wren It has to be said that no matter how tiny and vulnerable baby birds seem they are best left for the parent birds to deal with. You can place them out of harms way and just walk away.
As you have taken it upon yourself to rescue the wren a lot depends on the condition of the bird. If it's scrawny with few if any feathers, the chances of rearing it are slight. If it is well feathered and showing signs of stumpy tail feathers you might just be lucky to rear it on, but it takes a lot of time and patience. First make sure it has plenty of warmth and an available water source: shallow jam jar lid would suffice. You can buy a bird mix preared for all kinds of birds but in the short term collect insects, moth larvae, small spiders etc. and stir them into a palatable mash and feed using a moistened cotton bud. Feeding requires a regular routine which again depends on the size of the bird. Check with your local wildlife hospital for further advice.
Good luck

| | | Re: Help ! Wren If it's feathered then put it back near the nest and leave it. They can survive an early fledging.
It will be dead within about 3 hrs if it doesn't get fed. (insects, boiled egg yolk dipped in water, meaty pet food). |

| | | Re: Help ! Wren Hi Guys Thanks for replies I'm afraid despite feeding last night my little friend didnt make it through the night .This is not really surprising as it had fallen from the roof on to the concrete but was worth a go anyway . Also it was really new born and hadn't even opend his eyes yet ,I don't think putting it back would have helped as I could hear all it's siblings shouting for food and he wasnt even squeaking yet . |

| | | Re: Help ! Wren Ah, didn't realise it was that young. Likely cause of death is exposure, as they can't regulate their own temperature at that age and need to be kept warm. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
