| | | Re: Help with bird/little birds identification please yes coots alright, but how many of those chicks will survive, ive seen it many times the parents kill off the weakest, and only the strongest will make it, its very common in coots, strange behaviour but true. rossy. |

| | | Re: Help with bird/little birds identification please didn't know this rossy, but i've just had a look, and its true... weird! apparently they do it to increase chances of chick survival by decreasing competition in times of food scarcity.
however, unless this coot family are in a poor area for food and resources, i shouldn't think that the coots will be killed, except by predators of course!
