| | | Re: Skomer Birds Nice pics Pam and glad to hear you managed to get across to Skomer
I was down there (on North Pembrokeshire coast) a couple of weeks ago but sadly didn't manage to get onto the island due to the strong north easterly wind making it impossible to land safely and resulting in the boat trips being cancelled for several days

Jonners, your Puffin from the Farne Islands is a lovely photo, I hope you had a great time up there.
Jeff, it`s a shame you couldn`t get on a boat. We would have been so dissappointed if we couldn`t get across. I hope you get to go again soon.
Caroline, Welcome to WAB
I hope you have a lovely trip the weekend, the flower meadows are stunning
We arrived at Martins Haven at 8.45am on Thursday after a journey from Brum. All the tickets for that day had already been sold (250) even though they only sell on the day & the kiosk opens at 8.30am
We camped up the road & spoke to a couple of folk. One man said his wife had waited from 7am & they had got on the 2nd boat!
We decided to be up very early & waited for the ticket office to open from 6.45am on the Friday, we were first in line but alot of people came about 7am. Luckily the ticket office opened at 8am that day.
It was the school holidays & it was sunny after a few days of rain so I don`t know if this was normal or not. I prefered to wait & be sure of a place on the boat rather than be dissappointed

Myself and a couple of friends managed to get to the Island yesterday and I don't know if it was because it had rained all night down here or that the forecast for the day was not very encouraging, but we arrived at about 8.00am and there were only 6 people in front of us.
The forecast turned out to be completely wrong as usual and we had a glorious day of sunshine with lots of photographs taken.
Looking forward to my next visit already.
Regards
Wayne. |
