| | | Suprise on Stanage Edge :-) Hi all
On Thursday I took a friend on my usual Stanage walk but decided to approach Stanage Edge via North Lees rather than Dennis Knoll.
As we got nearer to the base of the rocks, we saw a guy with camera equipment and assumed he was photographing the climbers along the Edge.
We stopped while he photographed, not realising what it was he was actually looking at!
"There's a Ring Ouzel on that rock!" he told us.
I couldn't believe it! Although were were fairly close, the bird just sat there for ages and as always, I just wished I had the best camera in the world! LOL
A few weeks ago, there was a bit on Countryfile about the Ring Ouzels on Stanage Edge.
Apparently there are just a few pairs there, so it's no surprise that on all my walks in that area, I'd never seen one!
This guy had waited 3 weeks to get shots of one, so I felt really chuffed to have seen it when I wasn't even looking for it!
Tracey.

Tracey. | If you know their call you can hear them quite easily there. And watch out for the cliff closed for rock climbing signs. |

| | | Re: Suprise on Stanage Edge :-) Interesting stuff Tracey, you seem to have been able to get surprisingly close too.
Do you mind me asking where it was, presumably you walked up through the plantation from North Lees, so somewhere close to where the plantation path meets the Edge? |

We actually backed slowly away once we realised it was there, coz I would have felt terrible if we'd scared it off while the guy was photographing it! I should have taken my photos first!
We came up through the plantation and sort of headed to the left below the rocks a little way, as I'd got my eye on a scramble up onto the edge.
Hang on a minute, I'll upload a photo that may help!...............

I was photographing the edge and I actually got the photographer guy in the shot! You can see him on the left with his tripod! LOL
Any help?
Tracey.
