Last night, one after the other my cat brought me 4 baby birds!
He is a useless hunter and has never brought me anything before, so Im assuming he has just found a nest and seen them as an easy target. However, he has not attacked or badly injured most of them, it seems he has just picked them up and carried them too me.
When he brought them to me last night, it was late, so I placed each bird gently in a ventilated box with a blanket over, then locked them in a dark room away from the cats. I thought best not to interfer too soon and the best thing to do would be just reduce stress as much as possible.
This morning, it seems I was right, when I went to see the birds, 3 of them seem to be moving relatively well and are chirping happily. 1 However, isnt so good! Its the smallest of them, and is unable to stand or hold its own weight, its just lay their life-less, they only way I can tell its still alive is the faint breathing.
I have fed the three that would take it, a mixture of dry cat food, which i soaked in water then mashed up with scrambled egg. This is what a website I found told me would be ok.
Im not sure of any local places I can ring to take the birds or even to get advice! Plus its a sunday, which makes it more difficult as many places are not open!
If I cant find anyone else to look after them, I am happy to try my best and see what I can do! But Im going to need as much help and advice as possible!
I am pretty sure, after searching The internet, that they are starlings. They seem to have all their feathers, except at the base of their wings. They are not able to fly.
ANY advice would be appreciated!
I live in mid-devon, so if anyone knows of any places i can contact, that would be brilliant, if not advice on how to look after them please
Thankyou x
