| | | Help, abandoned baby bluetits Hi can somebody please give me some advice, we have bluetit chicks in our nest box, a week ago the male vanished and the female has been feeding the chicks very well for the last week, but today she seems to have gone missing too and now the chicks are calling out for her,i've had a look in the nest box and they look to be well developed, and i've even been feeding them some wet bread, is there a chance the female could come back?she's been gone for over 8 hours now. sue |

There is a good possibility that the female is not feeding them to try and coax them to leave the box. Young blue tits are normally fed small caterpillars and insects, by their parents, as they are easier for them to digest. It may not be a good idea to feed them wet bread as this can bloat their digestive system and cause problems. I would suggest that you feed them mealworms or dig up some worms and chop them up.
