| | | Blue Tit Abandoned Chicks SOS Hi - Blue tits have nested in my garden (wooden box). Over the last two weeks we could hear the chicks and the parents have been flying in / out a lot feeding with caterpillars etc. However I haven't seen the parents since yesterday. I think I can hear faint tweets coming from the box. I think it's too early for the chicks to have fledged. Any ideas as to what to do? Thanks |

| | | Re: Blue Tit Abandoned Chicks SOS Do nothing. It could well be that some/all of the chicks have fledged and the parent birds may be trying to entice the remaining youngster(s) out of the box. Fledging is between 18-21 days from hatching so if you have been hearing the chicks for two weeks that could just about be right as they may not have been very vocal for the first few days.
If for some reason the parents have abandoned their young (which is unlikely unless both have been killed) there isn't a lot you can do anyway. I'm afraid that's nature.
