| | should mother return to nestbox after fledging Great Tit chicks fledged today. 3 out of 5. However, the adult female has returned to the nextbox to sleep tonight! Shouldn't she be with her chicks? She returned twice not long after the last chick fledged, first time with feed for the chicks and second time she did a bit of housekeeping and then left. I have just had a look at the camera feed and was surprised to see her in the nest box sleeping. There is also the fact that there is still the two dead chicks in the box as she didn't remove them.Surely this isn't normal. Who is looking after and feeding the chicks because as I said they only fledged this morning! |

| | | Re: should mother return to nestbox after fledging I don't think there is a problem with her coming back to roost in the box overnight. Her young will be dispersed about the area, as it is safer for them to not be grouped together, so she wouldn't be able to be with them all anyway. It is more important that she roosts in a safe spot so that she is alive and well to feed them tomorrow. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
