| | | Attentive house sparrow parents In a previous thread,I mentioned that house sparrows were in our garden gathering nesting material. A later photo shows a male with some fine wire - reinforcement perhaps.
Being temporarily house and garden bound has given me the opportunity to really look at the birds in our garden.
The sparrows have now built their nest under the roof of a dormer window in our bedroom. They have been extremely busy gathering food for their brood
Then delivering it to the nest
Followed by the latrine wallah
Perhaps I should change my aphorism to 'Being on crutches concentrates the mind'.

| | | Re: Attentive house sparrow parents My house sparows seem to spend most of their time cheeping, or having tussles with each other, or else parade around with feathers. There doesn't seem to be much feeding going on. Somehow their babes are raised though, there are quite a few fully independent already, and now adding to the chorus of cheeping, and the next lot are on their way. I'm amazed how quickly they become independent ... same with the tree sparrows. |

| | | Re: Attentive house sparrow parents hi colin, i too have had an unexpected house / garden leave (depends on weather) enforced on me, and to be honest the only thing that has got me through it has been the birdlife, luckily i have nesting bluetits , that i have watched constantly for 2-3 months now, and now consider myself an expert on their outer box behaviour, and 4 families of sparrows whos screeching and chirping keep me awake in the garden, they truly are a delight in themselves, they seem to be continuously be adding new members to their families, they get through 2 suetballs a day, they continually ruin my prepared seed beds by constantly bathing in the dry earth but their squabbling antics far overrides my gardening attempts. so sit back and enjoy the show, and i hope your recovery is rapid.
last count on sparrows yesterday was 18 on lawn at one time, not counting shrub/tree flying sparrows nearby. |

Hopefully my leg plaster comes off next Tuesday. Equally hopefully, I wish you a speedy recovery. I am entering the sixth week, but your time off seems a lot longer than that.
Best
Colin
