Birds Won't Touch Niger Seed???

My daughter lived close to Aylesbury near five years although moving presently to Surrey. She had a big garden and I couldnt believe to see so few small birds with so so many in my own garden in Co.Down. I put up a peanut feeder and threw sunflower seeds shelled on grass for years there while visiting regularly and slowly the small birds number increased yearly. Last month her tree with feeder finally had plenty of birds noticing 4 or 5 goldfinches at a time although sadly hard to see a sparrow but saw in hedges nearby.
So do not give up, now here I have 20 to 30 redpolls daily,15 goldfinches and heaps of sparrows and all garden birds possible. I even get a few reed buntings and hang up bunches of millet for them and they strip them bare. Goldfinches love shelled sunflowers as well as niger seed but most of all they need plenty of fresh water. Dont give up as it took years and years to see the goldfinches in my daughters garden. Also dont forget birds leave heaps of little black shells behind with niger and the seed inside is actually eaten. I have to put out at least 2 tumblers full of niger daily or have redpolls everywhere on grass searching for food hence the cat then looking out ..... I look out sometimes and heaps of redpolls are crawling so quickly all over the millet bunches of seeds but goldfinches are not fussed and will go on peanut feeder instead.
