| | Found a baby sparrow Hi
I would usually leave a baby bird for the mother to find but my two year old scooped him out of the paddling pool around 6:30 pm. I left him in the garden and dried him of with a blow heater and the mum was on the roof the whole time. But, the baby bird was so shocked and shivering he did not tweat for his mum. Dusk started to fall and the mum had gone. He does have feathers and I think he was ready for his first flight because he has tried to fly. He is now in a shoe box with tissue and I have managed to get a very little cat biscuit and water down him.
What do I do now? Will the mum come back if I put him out in the morning? I work all day so cannot be with him.
Please help!
Thanks
Leigha |

| | Re: Found a baby sparrow The answer is probably YES, but as I'm not expert birder, someone else will give you advice....In case nobody comes in tonight...I think you put him out at first light, in a sheltered spot, like under bushes or vegetation....he will call and Mum will find him....think I've got that right....Good Luck...Posie.. |

| | | Re: Found a baby sparrow Thanks for you help guys. I can take him to Bedford (after he tweets through a meeting I have tomorrow) but I would prefer him to go back to his mum and his life be as it is meant to be.
The problem is he has really perked up so if I let him go in the garden tomorrow he will shoot under the fence and I know I won't be able to watch what happens.
Dilemas dilemas.
I don't think there is ever a right answer.

| | | Re: Found a baby sparrow You have to feed them constantly or babies will starve.
The babies came out for the fist time today and the noise was a crescendo,,so loud. The starlings mainly. The parents were non stop feeding them. I wonder if they go for a nap to give the parents a break?
They must have been exhausted bu the end of the day,,I was by just watching them all! |

| | | Re: Found a baby sparrow Hi Leigha, I agree with Posie's advice. Put the fledgling back into your garden at first light, into a safe place away from ground predators (bush or tree), and the parents will soon locate it and continue to care for it. |

| | | Re: Found a baby sparrow Yesterday I was taking a long walk by my house and I saw some kids playing with a slingshot. I figured all was fine until I saw this english sparrow fly off of its nest and they shot it! I knew it was the mother so i took the 1 bird from the nest. I tried to feed it, however it wont eat! Ive been using bread and mashed up seeds and dog food, but its not working. The bird will be beg but when I come to feed it it clamps its mouth shut. What can I do? I would take it to a rehab center, but im not Britain as is.. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
