| | Blue tit:sparrow terrace 3 nests with chicks Over the last month i have watched a pair of bluetits build 3 nests in all comparments to the terrace. This afternoon i was amazed to see the birds with caterpillars feeding chicks in all 3 nests, just worried now which group will survive and which ones wont |

| | | Re: Blue tit:sparrow terrace 3 nests with chicks Keep us informed on what happens. Are you sure it is just one pair, or have you got 1 male and 3 females? The young need to be brooded for some time, so I'm not sure how one female could do all three and be successful.
I also have a sparrow terrace (for 3). A pair of blue tits chose the middle one to build their nest in ... they shunned the single blue tit box that was a bit further along on the house. A pair of tree sparrows built a nest in the right hand box, and their young fledged two days ago, and they seem to have started adding new nest material, so looks as i they are going for a second brood in there. I noticed that a house sparrow would 'bag' the blue tits' middle box from time to time, leaving a long bit of grass sticking out. A little while ago the blue tits were no longer visiting the box, and a male house sparrow was sat over the middle one much of the time, and keeps looking in it. I'm not sure if it has got a nest in there, though it looks as if he did usurp the blue tits. I've not looked inside as I can't tell when both females are off their nests. Also the male house sparrow seemed to be stopping the tree sparrows from feeding their young, kept giving the parents the run around. The baby tree sparrows were just one day of fledging, when I saw that happening, so not sure if it happened a lot. The young were strong and healthy so I don't think they suffered. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
