| | | Re: Bird pellet ID help. Hello spoor. Welcome to WAB and well done for uploading your picture. I think in order to stand a better chance of identifying the producer of your package, you would probably need to disect it (soak it in water for a while first) and then identify the bones within. Jaws might prove easiest as these can be used to identify particular species of small mammal, which would make up the majority of a Tawny pellet I would reckon.
Enjoy, it can be really interesting |

| | | Re: Bird pellet ID help. I wouldn't recommend dissecting it, as I'm afraid that it looks like a fox dropping! The pale grey colour, lots of thick matted fur (rabbit?), large chucks of big bones, and the twisted end are good pointers. It's a very common confusion for bird pellets. |

| | | Re: Bird pellet ID help. Thanks for your reply s all. What makes me wary is that there is badger every where, buzzards above, fox tracks near and last week I found a definite tawny kill of a pidgin (pidgin feathers pluck out) and this pellet below (which looks like tawny to me)
I have to say I reckon RKB may have got it as I found the pellet/fox scat about 10 yards away from this kill. The bottom of the leg looked chewed. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
