| | Bluetits nesting Magpies scaring Hi to all, I have taken a new interest in the birds that visit my garden, my neighbours feed all of the wildlife that is in our town, but I'm finding that this may cause a problem for my Bluetit parents, I have a bird box that mum and dad bluetit was preparing for their new arrivals, I can now listen to the little ones chirping but have noticed several Magpies sitting on top of the box, I have made a quick step near them to scare them away but knowing nothing whatsoever about any birds, just wanted some quick advice regarding them, many thanks x |

Oh what a shame, several magpies you say, you obviously know that magpies eat the fledgling blue tits. If you have several magpies sitting on the box every day then it seems as though they are trying to get into the box, as they can't get in and if they keep it up then it doesn't bode well for fledgling day.
All you can really do now is to try and scare them away as you are doing with out scaring the blue tits ma and pa.
Can't think of anything else to add.
Its nature of course but not the sort of nature I care to have in my back garden. Unfortunately you can't protect them once they fledge.
Hope fully they may be successful if your box is in cover of shrubs/bushes that they can hide in when they do fledge. I suppose it will be down to timing as well.
You don't say if the magpies are at the boxes daily or not.
Time will tell, I do hope they don't get taken by the magpies.
I'm sure some one else with come up with advice but I can't see how you can fight nature in this situation. |

| | Re: Bluetits nesting Magpies scaring Thanks Kezzer, The magpies are in the gardsens everyday, I have only seen them on the box twice, but as I work it could be more. The box is in a magnolia tree which is very near to the house. Thanks for your reply. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
