Advice on Dungeness

Hi Everyone

Heading off to Dungeness tomorrow and as its quite a long way, can anyone give any advice on best places for bird photography/ watching as it seems quite large. It's the first time I am going so I'll probably get lost

There seems to be a lot of recent sightings of rare birds (inc. Purple Herons), am I likely to see anything?

There's always something to see at Dungeness. Black Redstarts are normally around the power station/cottages + last week quite a few Wheatears. Seawatching can be productive + often lots of terns/gulls at the patch- the area of heated water coming from power station. Last weekend several Gannets, Red-throated Diver, flock of Common Scoter, 10+ Harbour Porpoise. Look around the observatory area for fresh migrants- anything can turn up!

Afterwards head off to the RSPB reserve, checking ARC Pits on the way. Last week I was lucky to see the Whiskered Tern here which was a one day bird. Quite a few waders passing through, Yellow Wagtails, etc.

Have a good time- it's a unique landscape!

Just got back!

Thanks aeshna5, I don't even know which part I did. There were two car parks on either side of the road and If only one had a RSPB visitor centre, I went in that one

I think I only did 1/2 of it anyway, but still managed to sight a Purple Heron, It was really far away though

Highlights of the day were

2 Marsh Harriers
Sedge Warbler
2 Hobbys
2 Terns Fishing
Purple Heron
And loads of Whitethroats

It was a great day. Now I really want to go explore the rest of it
