Ospreys near Merthyr tydfil

Has anybody heard of Osprey sightings around Llwyn On reservoir near Merthyr Tydfil.

I'd heard of a sighting or two of them going through the Newport area headed north, but I hadn't heard that they'd stopped by in southern wales. Would definitely be interested if the rumor was true. Maybe they're just stopping on their way north?

I was talking to a fisherman at the reservoir and he said that there was a pair around the reservoir, i thought he had maybe been mistaken but he did know his birds. I did see a photograph 20 years ago of a Osprey on the dam wall at Llwyn on. Thanks for the reply and i will let you all know if the Ospreys appear.

I was there today...did not see or here of any sightings.

There was a dubious sighting 2 weeks ago on Llandegfedd, it was seen circling the water, this one was probably a Buzzard. Though, they do make an appearance here about twice a year.

Sam Bosanquet reported one on the Usk on May 12th.

I fish both reservoirs and i will keep my eyes open, i always see the Red Kites up the Usk and Buzzard at Llwyn On. Saw a lovely sight the other day 6 Herons on the same bank. thanks for the post.

Also saw 2 Canadian geese at Llwyn on reservoir this year.

I don't know if they are the same birds...there is currently a pair down over the dam with 5 goslings.

These birds are doing well here at Llandeg (to well actually), there is one large flock that turns up from time to time with an Emperor goose, which is a smart looking bird.

I actually fed the pair about 2 weeks ago with scraps of bread they were only 3 feet from me they didntr seem bothered by us being there. There is also a Cormorant which i have seen taking trout from the reservoir.
