I make a fat ball in a cocunut shell. Which has about one quarter removed . This makes a nice dome where the contents are protected from the elements. But you 'will' not get may secret super fatball recipe.
Greater spotted woodpeckers are hanging of it several times a day. Long tailed tits as sell , if there are enough upto 6 will perch all around the edges sharing there meal.
Blackbirds are still learning and they just fly up and grab a beak full. As well as Great tits and Blue tits who perch alone. Robins occasionaly grab a quick snack.
Unfortunately we have a major squirrel problem so the fat balls cannot be left out. At the moment the cocunut hangs off a 'squirrel proof' hook system from a particlarly bendy branch. So the squirrels have taken to launching them selves at the cocunut. Which may knock some of the contents out and onto the ground. Still there must be easier ways to get an meal
