Feeding my sheep yesterday I saw a large flock of Buzzards (about 40) gather and then disperse within 5 minutes or so without landing. Today the same sort of thing happened with about 12. 7 or 8 of them set off soaring upwards. I am well used to seeing plenty of Buzzards here on the Welsh border (e.g. 7 or 8 stacked up over the valley) but never a flock of 40. Was there anything special going on? |

Hi Johnny,
I spend a lot of time out watching Buzzards and Red Kite and, similar to your experiences, I am used to 5-10 soaring over a particular area. I would suggest that you have been very fortunate to see so many in one place. |

Tuesday 11th walking in Camerton woods and viewing over the valley,my wife and I saw 22 soaring over head.This is a common occurence in the area.40 have been seen a few times and reported in Somerset guardian.Nice to see them just riding the thermals just like gliders do. |

Guess I will have to travel a little farther afield to see such a fantastic sight. |

With a stack of 40 I would have put it down to particularly good thermal(s). My buzzards were not soaring and quite close to the ground. | | |
