| | | Inquisitive wood warblers Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that wood warblers can be very inquisitive, often coming closer to the observer as if to get a better look? I was watching one singing today at Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire and it did just that. This is not an isolated occurence for me with this species. I have observed similar antics with some here before, some in the Peak District and one last May in a woodland by the shores of Loch Lomond.
If no-one else backs me up on this then perhaps it is something about me. I must look a bit strange to them or something.

| | | Re: Inquisitive wood warblers Hi there
I have a garden warbler or so my expert neighbour tells me. I think its something similar not sure what to be honest. We have a very small nest in the bush with 2 babies. Every time i go in the garden the mum sits on the roof telling me off for hanging out the washing. It only seems to do it to me so maybe im very strange too. |

| | | Re: Inquisitive wood warblers Well Chris, funnily enough, I've got a bird that I suspected is a Wood Warbler, that does exactly the same to me. It follows me around a small area in the garden, and is very vocal as well, though it doesn't sound annoyed or distressed, just sort of communicating with me and flitting about near me. If I sit on the seat by the pond, it just keeps flitting from side to side, perching on the fence each side of me, closer than any other birds come to me,
(except a tame Robin). I first noticed it before the birds started nesting, so it isn't anything to do with protecting it's nest...Glad I read your post....Posie.. |

| | | Re: Inquisitive wood warblers I've noticed a similar thing with goldcrests occasionally, but they never keep still so the effect is not as pronounced. I think it's why I like wood warblers so much. They act as though they like me! Crivvens, I'm really losing it now.
