| | | Can anyone explain what has happened here? While out for an stroll this evening, I came across a freshly cut hedge which had been covered head to toe in netting for about 300m. I am at a loss to explain what has happened. One can only speculate about nesting birds and their young. Usually their are a number of linnets leading my walk, none today! No where to perch. Someone has gone to a lot of expense and work..Anyone with an idea what has happened? |

| | | Re: Can anyone explain what has happened here? You're right mrbright. Ecologists will have put the netting over the hedge to prevent birds nesting in it before removing it. If they did, it may hinder the timing of the development - what ever that is - new pipeline - access track etc.
These are two images I posted on the last thread with a similar query.

| | | Re: Can anyone explain what has happened here? Thanks for the explanation. There are developements going on in the area. I do find it disconcerting that the hedge has been cut and netted within the last week or so. Surely this should have been done in early February.

I cannot understand how they have got away with doing this within the last two weeks, I'm sure there is some legislation preventing this, 'cos birds will have had eggs, and even worse chicks by then,,, If it was me I would report it, and find out why they were allowed to do this....Sounds like rules being bent to me. |

I have a baby dunnock being fed in my garden so it looks like they should have done this earlier or in the Autumn.
A thought crossed my mind when I saw this was what if there is birds sitting on eggs or worse feeding chicks in the nest and the parent is trapped inside/outside the netting. |

| | | Re: Can anyone explain what has happened here? I think I will report it. This is part of the Croxteth Hall Park estate (Liverpool) and comes under the responsibility of Liverpool City Council. I have rung the estate offices this morning and a secutity officer has told me to phone back on monday morning. I shall keep you informed. |

| | | Re: Can anyone explain what has happened here? As long as the hedge was checked for nesting birds by a 'suitably qualified ecologist' prior to the netting being installed/hedge cut then no offence will have been committed. This is just standard practise for ecological consultants. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
