| | | Which Pipit Please? I took these photos today in the Peak District above Sheffield and I'm not sure exactly what they are. I think they are Pipits, I thought Meadow Pipit but they're both different - male/female maybe?
If someone could help me out of my confused state I would be grateful

Hello Billy they are Pipits not to sure myself but have narrowed itr down to between the Meadow and Water Pipit and myself am leaning towards the Water Pipit because of the lighter colouring also the light coloured supercillum above the eye,I maybe wrong but I am going for the Water Pipit and stand to be corrected

| | | Re: Which Pipit Please? Both Meadow Pipits as you intially thought. They can be quite variable- but it's not a sexual distinction; it's not really possible to tell them apart. |

| | | Re: Which Pipit Please? Both are Meadow Pipits. These can show quite a lot of individual variation in plumage, particularly with regard to the strength of the streaking, and the overall colour (some are very grey, others are warmer brown). Male and female cannot be separated on plumage.
Edit: So basically the same as Aeshna posted while I was typing! |

I have the same problem trying to ID via books, especially as some photo images don't match what you in reality. |
