Serin

Hello All,,I live in Newark Nottinghamshire,,I am certain that I have a Serin visiting my feeders in the back garden,never seen the like before,is this possible as far north as Newark ???

It could be possible, as birds aren't restricted to their 'normal' locations. I've just done a quick 'Google' and some people have sighted them in Nottinghamshire.

Hi Steve,

It is possible that you have had a Serin visiting your garden feeders but they are still a fairly rare bird anywhere in Britain (mainly seen near the south and south east coasts).
There are a number of other finch species that can appear similar, including more common British species and escaped cage birds. If you are able to get a photograph, or at the very least give a description of the bird, we may be able to confirm your ID, or suggest an alternative.

Had full view of "Serin" today and given that it has a light chestnut colour back,and that it has a mate,I am now convinced that this visiting pair to my feeders are in fact Yellowhammers,,, Thanks for the help
