| | Rare Fieldfare chick or something else A chick has being hopping around and flying all over my garden. A little suprised to see it. But the problem is I cannot identify. Its bigger than a Robin. I know this because it perches next to one on the fence. Viewing through the binos I can see a patterned brown back. Over a week its got bigger and has a pale breast very much like a Song Thrush. A quick reference says Fieldstarts look like my bird but with a plain brown back. It seems to be growing and thriving.
So a tough one and any suggestions are appreciated.

| | | Re: Rare Fieldfare chick or something else My guess would be a young blackbird - they can often be quite mottled and varying shades of brown.
This one was in my garden last year: |

| | | Re: Rare Fieldfare chick or something else Unlikely to be a Fieldfare as they rarely breed here- usually just a few pairs in the Highlands. |

| | | Re: Rare Fieldfare chick or something else I agree It probably is a blackbird chick, look out for the parents feeding it then you'll know
We have 2 fledgeling song thrushes in the garden, at first they stayed in the cover of the hedge, but now we see them in the open. However when exposed like this one tends to have one parent with it and the other has the remaining parent close by too! |

| | Re: Rare Fieldfare chick or something else Thanks Jonners. Your piccie was spot on. I have not seen the bird for a few days. But we have a handful of Blackbirds around.
A blackbird it is then. And its a fat little Wayne or Waynetta.
