| | | Bird ID Please I always have difficulty in recognising the difference between a Song Thrush and a Mistle thrush. My first thought is this is a Mistle but then again !!!! So I would like to bow to someone's much greater knowledge. What is this and in easy terms and not seeing both side by side what is the best way of differentiating between the two please?
Thanks Mike

| | | Re: Bird ID Please I'd say you're right with mistle thrush Mike.
Going by general impressions only it seems to me that the pale chest feathers on mistle tend towards the grey while the song thrush ones are more creamy. The overall result is that I see a mistle thrush as a greyish brown bird and the song thrush as a much warmer, richer brown.

Songthrushes have arrows rather than the splodges of a Mistle thrush. I think Songthrushes are slimmer too.
Looking at your photo I think it may be a mistle thrush....... but watch this space
