What zoom lens

I'm looking to buy either the Tamaron 18-270 or Sigma 18-300 zoom lens as a general purpose lens, some advice would be much appreciated.

I haven't used either lens, so can't give any detailed advice, but generally speaking Sigma lenses seem to have a better reputation (at least I see many more users here with Sigma than Tamron lenses).

i have a tamron 55-200mm which is reasonably good for some wildlife shots, but obviosly the range is a limiting factor. i think my dad got it new at less than £150 and passed it down to me as he got a new one. i think sigma are generally better quality though

There's been lots of reports concerning poor quality control of Sigma lenses.

I have the Tamron - sharp enough, but the automatic focus is slowish (as in the reviews).

Great walk-about lens with that range though.
