| | | Is there any way to keep pigeons eating all the bird food? I ahve a couple of feeders in my garden.
The pigeons eat most of the food.
Although i like the
collared doves
and
blackbirds
but the pigeons eat everything. |

pigeons like corn, which is cheap, so buy a sack of basic corn and put some of it on the ground, cos they are ground feeders in the fields, and they should spend a lot less time eating from the feeders. that's what I do...Posie.. |

I use feeders for niger, sunflower and mixed seed and I hang fat balls from trees for those birds that perch or cling while feeding. I have a circular feeding tray supported on a metal spike, which is covered by a wider copper dome. The lip of the dome is about 3" clear of the tray, allowing smaller birds (blackbirds, starlings and lesser sizes) to fly under the dome and access the food. I can still view the birds feeding at the tray. You may be able to think of something that might mimmick this. Would it be possible for you to suspend something above your table so that its height would inhibit the pigeons such as wire netting? |

It's me again, my friend has a bird table with a wooden roof which is supported on a leg at each corner of the bird-table..She put 3 or 4 strands of string around the legs holding the roof, a few inches apart, The small birds can get to the food, but the bigger ones, pigeons, magpies etc can't get through. I've also seen one done with batons or sticks round the outside of the legs instead, cos it would be firmer for the little birds to perch on. or you could use bamboo sticks...In fact if you didn't have a roof on the bird table, you could make a cagelike structure on the same principle, to fix on top of the table...and then put corn for the pigeons etc on the ground....Posie. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
