| | | Red Kite over Sidcup I saw one this afternoon and is a first for round here for me. Thing is, is it likely to be an escapee from somewhere like Eagle Heights. It appeared lost, flew in a straight line quite slowly from Footscray Meadows straight over the farm and over Joydens Woods where it did a couple of circles before disappearing from sight.
I know they lost a Goshawk last year, it spent most of the summer in the woods ajoining the farm before someone rescued it (or it cleared off).
It was good to see it though, I must admit.

| | | Re: Red Kite over Sidcup Eek! I'm being followed! It's trailed me all the way home from Gigrin Farm. Perhaps it just wants to see how the pictures came out.
Seriously, they have been seen over London and into Kent although not by me. One has been seen at Crossness and Ukwildlifeo photographed one at Stodmarsh near Canterbury (although he thought it was a buzzard at the time).

The more I think about the way it was flying the more convinced I am that it is an escapee from somewhere. "Aimless" would be the word.
Mind you, Crossness isn't far away.

Mind you, Crossness isn't far away. | Almost definitely a wild bird, probably from one of the introduced populations- they are spreading far + wide now! |

| | | Re: Red Kite over Sidcup If you google 'londonbirders+latest news' they have quite a few sightings listed around the London area, including one at Crossness on 1st April. |
