Hi can anyone please help i live in lincolnshire and i have seen a bird about the size of a pigeon or partridge take off from long grass with a yellow back and brownish wings, it dosent make a noise like a partridge or pheasant. I have looked through loads of pics on web and cant find anything. Thanks for any ideas. |

Green Woodpecker is the only likely candidate I would have thought. |

A tad early and most likely a Green Woodpecker but take a look at the Golden Oriole. Very lucky if it was.  |

it does sound like a Green Woodpecker and they do spend a lot of time feeding on the ground |

sounds like a Green Woodpecker to me also, that's usually when I spot them; flying away from me when I have accidentally disturbed one! The RSPB: Green woodpecker
I have include the above link as you can listen to the sound they make which is quite distinctive (although a Starling that visits our garden does a good impression).

Hi and thanks for your quick replies, after looking at the pics you sent me i am pretty sure it was the green woodpecker as you said, i have lived in the country all my life and had never seen one before then i saw it twice in three days whilst walking the dog.
