| | | new to all this I am very new to birdwatching and am lucky enough at my first attempt to have a nest box with a camera this year which has already got blue tits in it. (very excited! keep phoning everyone to give updates which they dont really need!!)
Because I dont know what to expect I am not sure whether their behaviour is normal.
A bird (presume female) has been putting nesting material in for about 3 weeks now and there is quite a bit in there. No sign of any other bird helping out (at least i dont think so but they still all look alike to me!!) This bird does not like any other bird coming near the box (when she is there which is surprisingly seldom!) last week another bird appeared with a beakfull of stuff and my bird began hissing and lurching forward towards the entrance. After about 10 mins the 'intruder' flew off. This was repeated several times, but yesterday the intruder came into the box resulting in a fight which appeared very viscious - one bird flew off. today they are back to the attempted entering and hissing episodes.
Could this be 2 females or a male and a female, does anyone else have any idea what is going on??
Many thanks for the help |

| | Re: new to all this Hello JEH, and a warm welcome to WAB. Maybe 2 seperate birds want to build their nest in your box, but I am not an expert so best to wait till someone else comes in to speak to you....Could you put another box up a little way away from the first one, in case it is what I said...My Dad had 5 bluetit nests all alongside each other in a shed wall cavity once, so they don't seem to mind community living. But see what others say...Posie.. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
