| | | Great tit in nest cam box Hi all
New here but thought I'd share that I have a great tit in the nest box with a camera that I put up last year.
First saw her in the box 5th April, she's been sleeping in every night since. This morning at 9:30am I had the first egg, by 1pm I had 3, and at 6pm I had 6!!
I'm so excited

| | | Re: Great tit in nest cam box Sorry, & yes, I'm glad I didn't have to lay them.
I think there are now 8 but she's started to hide them with nest material. Last night she was all fluffed up in the box for the first time. Previously just sleeping with her head tucked up and feathers all flat.
Does anyone know how long they should take to hatch? I may set up the video.
Thanks, Batty |

| | Re: Great tit in nest cam box First of all please don't apologise, I was meaning "funny" as ha ha, it made me laugh.
Incubation is roughly 12 to 16days fledge is 15 to 23 days.
For your excitement of blue tits nesting, (which is very exciting I know, I have two nest boxes one with Gt. tits and the other with blues and no camerea but still find it exciting year after year.) this web site would be great for you, its full of information too.......
Here is a link....... The Bigg Bird Forum :: View Forum - Bird Boxes
take a look, you will be well pleased you did. |

Thanks for the link too, very interesting. Much reading to do......
I've had blue tits in another box for the last few years. They chose to use that box before I'd even put it up! I had to build some fortification around it to protect them from cats once the eggs had hatched. Thankfully it worked and they've used the same box every year since. I've seen them inspecting it so far but I'm not sure if they've laid any eggs yet.
Last year they managed to escape a Kestrel by the flick of a feather and a greater spotted woodpecker the year before.
