| | Sick - Wood Pegion Hi friends,
I found a sick wood pegion on the motor way. I think its left wing has some problem. The wing is not in the right position, it's hanging down. I kept it in a cardboard box warm enough and gave water and grains but its not touching anything.
will any body help me in making it survive. |

| | | Re: Sick - Wood Pegion It's maybe got a broken wing after being clipped by a car. You are doing all you can do at the moment but be advised that the outcome may be that the kindest thing would be euthanasia. The only thing I would advise at the moment is to put it somewhere dark, this will help keep it calm. Call a wildlife sanctuary or the RSPCA, they can maybe tell you where to take it. I once rescued a racing pigeon & called them they told me to take it to a vet where they (RSPCA) would pay for £60 worth of treatment before the owners could pick it up. Not quite the same situation I know, but it may help until someone more expert on the forum comes along. Some people would say it's 'only' a pigeon, but it's got a right to live as well. Well done you for trying to save it.

| | | Re: Sick - Wood Pegion Hi there Bird_lover and welcome to the WAB forum.
The best chance for this wood pigeon is for you to contact the nearest wildlife rescue & rehabilitation organisation in your area ... if you tell us your general area, we can help with some suggested contact details.
A wildlife rehabilitator with experience of birds will be able to assess just how badly damaged the wing is, and will have the appropriate veterinary contacts to be able to deal with it appropriately.
Bird bones fuse fairly quickly, so the sooner you can get the pigeon to someone with the appropriate knowledge, the better the chance that the wing can be healed to a degree that will allow the bird to be re-released to the wild. Every hour you delay I'm afraid will lessen the chances of a good result.
You have followed the correct procedure so far ... don't worry too much that it's not eating or drinking ... in fact it's all too easy to make matters worse by trying to force an injured bird to drink. |
