Heron Pose

Hi everyone,

I had to write in today, becouse i had a delightful afternoon, after getting home from work early, and the sun was shining, I thought id take the wife to the park.

We went to Stanborough park, Welwyne garden city, I took the camera as usual, lucky i did as soon as we got there i saw a lovely bird ducking under water and about a minute later coming up, i took some snap shots, there was a lady there taking photo's as well, i asked what bird it was, she said it was a Great crested grebe, she told me there were herons on the center island.

Just as we started walking the heron was flying towards me, it swayed around and went afar, i took some snap shots.
At this point we sat down, and i was excited that i managed to get some photo's, it made my day, (wife couldn't understand my excitement)

Anyway cut a long story short, going back to the car park, we go over a wooden bridge, the bridge was full of people looking down, i thought what are they looking at? the heron that flew over me was standing there posing.

Lovely when they come up close - the fluffy tendril feathers on the front of their necks are always a surprise on such a large bird. My magic moments for herons was at Barnes Wetlands trust, we counted nearly thirty one day and it wasn't the same bird keep coming around. At one point we saw a whole string of them at same distance apart, along the waters edge - looked like a load of old fishermen in a contest!! Lovely though.
