| | | Re: Any cuckoos yet? No sign of any yet in my part of Nottinghamshire but will be checking my local patches over the next few weeks in the Trent Valley and last year the numbers were down on previous years in my area but did see quite a few on passage on the Lincolnshire Coast later in the year when i was working there.
The Cuckcoo has gone into massive decline in recent years in the UK and appears to be mainly due to serious problems on wintering grounds and is now Red Listed in the UK and hope these problems that are affecting this iconic bird and herald of spring can be sorted out and i understand a lot of research on wintering grounds has been undertaken in the last few years.
A good site in Nottinghamshire for sightings in the last few years has been Netherfield Lagoons but it's best to visit it early morning before the dog walkers turn up on mass. late April to mid May seems to be the best period to get contact with them in this part of the country and the earliest reccord for Nottinghamshire is 25 March but that was way back in 1962. |
